The Santa Barbara Police Department maintains a fully operational indoor firing range.  This is where officers of the Santa Barbara Police Department practice and qualify on a regular basis to keep proficient with their duty weapons. 

Outside law enforcement agencies use our range, as well as other city departments, such as the City Harbor Patrol, Airport Patrol, and the Fire Department Arson Investigators.

Although the range is not open for public use, participants of our Citizen's Academy are given the opportunity to handle law enforcement duty weapons.  If you would like the opportunity to experience this part of police work, sign up for our next Citizen's Academy.

The indoor range was remodeled 1990 for an approximate cost of $230,000. This remodel was accomplished in order to create a healthier and safe range environment.  80% of the ammunition used in the range is lead free.
