PAYING THE FINE

Penalties can be paid online, in person, and by mail.

In person by bringing the citation and bail amount to the Parking Citation Section located in the lobby of the Santa Barbara Police Department, 215 East Figueroa Street, Santa Barbara, California 93101. Hours are: Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  We are closed legal holidays and weekends.

To pay by mail, send your check, money order or certified check to: City of Santa Barbara, Parking Citation Section, Post Office Box 2547, Santa Barbara, Ca. 93120

TIME LIMIT

You have 10 days from the date the citation is issued to pay the fine which is shown on the citation (weekends and holidays are counted) for all except: expired registration, improper display of California registration/no registration tabs, and no front/rear plate. These are dismissible within 30 days of the citation date with proof of compliance and payment of a $10.00 administrative fee.

TO CHALLENGE

California law now prohibits a person from challenging any parking citation in a Municipal Traffic Court.  If you wish to contest a citation, you must contact the Parking Section at the Santa Barbara Police Department within 21 days of the date of the violation, either in person or by telephone (805) 897-2360, Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., and complete an Initial Review request form. If you do not do it within the 21 day time frame you forfeit all rights to challenge the citation. Administrative fees to dismiss citation based on proof of compliance are not subject to challenge.

You may download the Initial Review request form here: Initial Review Form.

Further information regarding parking citations can be obtained by contacting the Parking Citation Section, 215 East Figueroa Street, Santa Barbara, Ca., (805) 897- 2360.

Parking Enforcement

DELINQUENT PARKING CITATIONS

Failing to respond to five or more citations may result in immobilization or towing and impounding of a vehicle or any other vehicle owned by you under the California Vehicle Code Sections 22651.7 and 22651(i).

If you fail to pay penalty fines or initiate an Initial Review request, an additional late fee may be added to your required penalty. (Penalty fine is deemed "paid" on the date received by the police department.) In addition, an arrest warrant may be issued or the Department of Motor Vehicles may be notified to withhold your next annual vehicle registration renewal until citations are paid.
