Transportation Planning

This program provides for the long- and short range planning and financing of transportation programs, services and infrastructure to meet the future mobility needs of the City. The program is also responsible for planning the safe and efficient movement of people and goods via automobiles, mass transit, bicycles or travel by foot. In coordination with the Community Development Department, Transportation Staff reviews discretionary projects for conformance to transportation related regulations and practices, and how land use decisions will affect the transportation system. Transportation Planning is the lead contact with SBCAG and is responsible for regional transportation planning efforts and strategies to maintain and improve access to and from the City.

·         Supports regional transportation planning and decision making;
 

·         Identifies and competes for State and Federal money for transportation system development;

·         Works directly with community groups to address neighborhood and business transportation concerns, and develop appropriate programs or projects;

·         Develops new transportation policies using “state of the art” techniques through a public participation process in response to Council goals;

·         Reviews all site plans for conformance to transportation and parking alternative transportation policies, regulations, and practices.
