Standards for Parking Design

These Parking Design Standards are part of the City of Santa Barbara Municipal Code (Section 28.090.045) and list minimum dimensions and other criteria for the design of all parking facilities in the City.

The Traffic Management Program

Partnership between the City of Santa Barbara and local neighborhoods to “Take Back the Streets” by developing a plan to address particular mobility or traffic issues. Developing a traffic plan can be a unifying process that will introduce business owners and residents to one another and create a spirit of community while cooperatively working together to make their neighborhood more livable and user friendly.  more information about the program

The Bicycle Master Plan

The update of the City of Santa Barbara’s Bicycle Master Plan was directed by the adoption of the City’s Circulation Element, Policy 4.1, in 1997. The Bicycle Master Plan was written by City staff in cooperation with the Bicycle Leadership Team. It involved extensive gathering of community input and field research. The plan was adopted by the City Council by resolution 98-133 on October 13, 1998.

Bicycle Parking

·         Long Term Parking… The City of Santa Barbara is constructing a bicycle parking facility as a component of the Granada Garage.  This facility will provide for covered parking for 75 bicycles, with 24/7 access.

·         Short Term Parking… The City provides bicycle hitching posts for customers to local businesses, where space permits in the parkway adjacent to sidewalk.  If you know of a location that would benefit from a bicycle hitching post, please email us with the address, and we will check it out. 

Circulation Element

On November 25, 1997, the City Council adopted resolution 97-143 amending the General Plan and incorporating the Circulation Element and related Local Coastal Plan Amendment into the City’s General Plan. The Circulation Element was certified by the California Coastal Commission in September, 1998.

Pedestrian Master Plan

The development of the City of Santa Barbara’s Pedestrian Master Plan was directed by the adoption of the City’s Circulation Element in 1997. The Pedestrian Master Plan was written by City staff in cooperation with Alta Planning + Design. The plan was adopted by the City Council by resolution 06-065 on July 18, 2006.
