Street Sweeping Cancellation Policy

It is the rainy season and street sweeping is subject to cancellation on rainy days. When sweeping is cancelled, so is parking enforcement in restricted sweep zones! You can hear an announcement of daily sweeping status on the Street Sweeping Hotline at 897-1903. Callers may also ask questions and calls will be returned as quickly as possible.

About cancellations
Rain and City-observed holiday are the two reasons for cancellation of scheduled street sweeping on both the residential and commercial routes.

Rain: Street sweeping is cancelled on rainy days when runoff fills the gutters. Steady rain, not just showers, is usually needed to warrant cancellation.  The street maintenance supervisor decides whether or not to cancel sweeping and posts an announcement on the Street Sweeping Hotline, 897-1903.  Parking enforcement in sweeping zones is cancelled for the rest of that day.

Holidays: It’s City policy to cancel street sweeping on the City-observed holidays.  There are nine City holidays a year and they aren’t all the same as Federal holidays. When sweeping is cancelled due to a holiday, a message announcing the cancellation is posted on the Street Sweeping Hotline, 897-1903, and parking enforcement in sweeping zones is cancelled for the rest of that day.

3.      President’s Day (2/18/08)

4.      Memorial Day (5/26/08)

5.      Independence Day (7/4/08)

6.      Labor Day (9/1/08)

7.      Thanksgiving Day  (11/27/08)

8.      Friday after Thanksgiving (11/28/08)

9.      Christmas Day (12/25/08)

No make-up days: There are no make up days or schedule shifts when street sweeping is cancelled.
