 | Are you concerned about ocean water quality or scared to let your kids swim in the ocean? Do you want to know how wastewater treatment protects the ocean? | Protecting Santa Barbara's Coastal Resources A Staff of Environmentalists at Work
Each day the City of Santa Barbara's wastewater treatment plant operators come to work with the objective of preventing ocean pollution. Staff concern about the environment doesn't stop at cleaning wastewater - they continually look for more ways to reduce air, water and soil pollution by eliminating discharges of hazardous materials to the sewer, reducing chemical usage and saving energy. Staff's motivation to protect the environment comes in part from personal interests and hobbies. Staff members include avid surfers, fishermen, outrigger canoe paddlers, and members of local environmental groups.
