The Operations Division consists of 95 employees:
- 28 Fire Captains
- 33 Engineers
- 28 Fire Fighters
Working at 8 stations on 3 different shifts, we provide continuous emergency services (24 hours a day) for 90,000 residents, and up to an average daily population of 123,000 people including visitors, in the 23 square miles the City covers.
We respond to natural and man made emergencies including the following type of incidents:

- Medical Emergencies
- Accidents
- Harbor Incidents
- Hazardous Materials
- Explosions
- Aircraft Emergencies
- Flooding
- Earthquake
- Rescues
In 2010, the City of Santa Barbara Fire Department responded to 7,608 alarms; 5,377 or 71% of the calls were medical emergencies.
Engine Companies also conduct prevention inspections and deliver fire safety public education for the community of Santa Barbara.
The Training Division provides standardized training for department members. This division insures that the fire department meets or exceeds all Federal, State and Local requirements, certifications, and mandates. It also is active in developing and evaluating new programs for the department.
