The Westside Community Center was opened at 423 West Victoria Street in 1980-81 in response to the need for a community service facility and neighborhood center for the Westside and West Downtown targeted areas.
The Westside Community Center is located at the site of the former Wilson School. The entire site was purchased by the Redevelopment Agency, and the City then purchased a portion of the site from the Agency for the community center. The remainder of the site was used for a housing project constructed by the Santa Barbara Housing Authority.
The Westside Center Advisory Committee was formed in November 1980 to advise the City Council on the administration, use and policies of the Center and to insure that the Center is utilized in the best possible manner to serve the surrounding community.
